Rehab Questions, Straight Answers: 12 Things People Ask Before Calling

Welcoming entry of a private Las Vegas residential treatment estate

Most people research treatment for days before they call anyone. These are the twelve questions our admissions team at BetterChoice Treatment Center in Las Vegas hears most, answered the way we answer them on the phone: directly.

1. How fast can I get in?

Same-day admission is routine. A phone assessment takes about an hour, insurance verification usually comes back within a few hours, and we admit seven days a week, 24 hours a day. If you call in the morning, you can typically sleep here tonight.

2. Will anyone find out I went to rehab?

Not from us. Federal law (42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA) gives substance use treatment records stronger confidentiality protection than almost any other medical record. We confirm nothing to anyone — employers, family members, anyone — without your written consent.

3. Will my boss find out?

Only if you tell them. Medical leave through FMLA or short-term disability does not require disclosing the reason to your employer. Our team helps with the paperwork, which is processed as confidential medical leave.

4. Can I keep my phone?

Phones are secured during the first few days while you stabilize, then returned for structured use. It is a clinical decision — the first days go better without the outside world in your pocket — not a punishment.

5. How long does treatment take?

Medical detox: usually 5-10 days. Residential treatment: typically 30-90 days, determined by clinical need and insurance authorization, not a fixed package. Longer engagement is consistently associated with better outcomes.

6. Does insurance really cover this?

Usually, yes. Addiction treatment is an essential health benefit under federal law. Most commercial plans — Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, TRICARE — cover detox and residential care when medically necessary. Your real cost is your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, not the sticker price. Verify your benefits here — it takes about an hour.

7. What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes for about a week (laundry is on site), your ID and insurance card, prescribed medications in original bottles, and a short list of important phone numbers. Leave valuables home. Full list in our what to expect guide.

8. Is detox painful?

Managed properly, no — uncomfortable at moments, but not the white-knuckle ordeal people fear. Medical detox uses targeted medications so you can sleep, eat, and function while your body clears the substance. Vitals are monitored around the clock. Most people say the anticipation was worse than the experience.

9. Can my spouse/family visit?

Yes, on a schedule the clinical team sets — typically after the first stabilization period. Out-of-state families join family therapy sessions virtually. Family involvement is encouraged; it measurably improves outcomes.

10. What if I have depression, anxiety, or PTSD too?

Then you are in the majority, and it changes the treatment plan — both conditions must be treated together or neither resolves. That is dual diagnosis treatment, a core BetterChoice program that includes psychiatric care and trauma therapies like EMDR.

11. What happens after I leave?

Before discharge you will have a written aftercare plan: outpatient referrals in your home city, alumni community access, a relapse prevention plan, and scheduled follow-ups. Treatment does not end at the door — the first 90 days after residential care are planned as carefully as the stay itself.

12. What if I relapse afterward?

Relapse is a signal to re-engage, not proof that treatment failed. Chronic conditions sometimes recur; the plan accounts for that. Alumni who hit trouble call us — sometimes for a therapy referral, sometimes for a short return stay. What matters is that the door is never closed.
